FedEx will soon be offering Picture Proof of Delivery for express and ground residential deliveries in the U.S. and Canada that are released without a signature. Customers will receive a photo showing the exact location of their package once it’s delivered to their doorstep, by simply tracking their package. FedEx Express and FedEx Ground are the first nationwide carriers to announce they will provide Picture Proof of Delivery, without requiring an account or login. The rollout should begin in September in select markets with the goal of being fully operational across the US and Canada by early November. This is a welcome advancement for Fedex as it competes with Amazon as a carrier. Online sellers and retailers need to be aware of how this may change the dynamic of ‘lost’ or stolen packages as it relates to claims back to Fedex. It can be expected that if Fedex shows an image of the package at the destination then any lost package would be the responsibility of the receiver and a matter for the local police.
